Elvira Fortunato at Sociedade Civil

In 2020, over 1100 applications were made to register new inventions, ranging from things necessary for our daily lives to inventions for industry. You can hear some of the inventions named on the RTP2 programme ‘Sociedade Civil’ in an interview given by Professor Elvira Fortunato, Vice Rector of Universidade NOVA de Lisboa and coordinator of SYNERGY project and by Professor Rogério Colaço, President of the Instituto Superior Técnico.

Professor Federico Bella receives the ISE Prize for Electrochemical Materials Science

The ISE (International Society of Electrochemistry) has awarded Professor Federico Bella, a professor of the Electrochemistry Group at the Department of Applied Science and Technology at Politecnico Di Torino, the ISE Prize for Electrochemical Materials Science. Federico received one of the 12 prestigious annual awards given by the International Society of Electrochemistry, receiving important recognition for his studies in the electrochemical area.

Professor Elvira Fortunato is announced as the winner of the ‘FEMS Materials Innovation Prize’ awarded by FEMS (Federation of European Materials Societies)

Professor Elvira Fortunato, SYNERGY coordinator, is the winner of the ‘FEMS Materials Innovation Prize’, awarded for her work on functional and sustainable materials. Elvira Fortunato said “Scientists in the field of materials science play a fundamental role in the choice of materials and technologies for the emerging solutions that the planet is facing”.

The SYNERGY Project has been mentioned in an article by Nature Portfolio

The renowned ‘Nature Portfolio’ mentions SYNERGY project in an article with SYNERGY Coordinator Elvira Fortunato, where she introduces the Institute of Nanostructures, Nanomodelling and Nanofabrication.

Elvira Fortunato is awarded with a gold medal, commemorating the 50thAnniversary of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights

The Ceremony for the 2020 Human Rights Prize, which took place at the Assembly of the Republic on July 7th 2021, saw professors and researchers from the NOVA University of Lisbon, Elvira Fortunato and Maria do Rosário Martins, awarded with gold medals. The medals were to commemorate the 50th Anniversary of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights.

Professor Elvira Fortunato is distinguished with the ACTIVA Career Award 2020

Professor Elvira Fortunato was distinguished with the ACTIVA Career Award in a ceremony which took place on Thursday 27th May. The ceremony highlighted the most relevant contributions to the country regarding Arts, Science, Sports, Business, Solidarity and Sustainability, with the support of Seat, Endesa, Filorga and Pantene.

SYNERGY Coordinator Elvira Fortunato is awarded the Executive Award ‘25 Most Influential Women in Portugal-2020’

Professor Elvira Fortunato was awarded the Executive Award “25 Most Influential Women in Portugal- 2020” at the sixth edition of the award ceremony held on Tuesday 25th May in Lisbon. Fortunato states “I hope to be able to continue to influence my specific area, that of scientific research, and I hope to have many girls following the path of science in the future”.

Advanced Materials Conference 2021

Elvira Fortunato is one of the organisers of the Advanced Materials Conference being held on the 16th June 2021. The conference, organised under the Portuguese Presidency of the European Union, is free of charge and aims to “boost innovation to its maxima, without compromising vital global principles of opening science to the world”. Professor Elvira Fortunato for News Magazine: “Pandemic or corruption. Which is the bigger threat?”

Elvira Fortunato shared her opinion on the subject of pandemic versus corruption with News Magazine, where she talks about the creation of more scientific and technological wealth. Fortunato states “We will already have tomorrow a great challenge associated with the funds of the Recovery and Resilience Programme, which represents, in itself, a window of opportunity to do completely different”.
